Kleek Apprenticeships have answered some of the most frequently asked questions people ask us before they start their apprenticeship and even though we are a hair and beauty apprenticeship specialist some of the answers to these questions will also be correct for other industries too.

An apprenticeship is THE best way to build your team.

Developed by experts in the hair and beauty industry, it is a work-based training program designed to give your staff members the highest quality skills in areas they and you need them most.

Your apprentices will learn all the skills, knowledge, and behaviours they need to be a successful member of your team, develop a successful career and to help build your business.

There are loads of reasons to hire an apprentice, they help you to expand your team in a cost effective, controlled way, they can help improve the productivity of your team and staff retention and you are in full control of the order, speed and way your new team member is trained.

Yes.

There are grants available to employers for employing an apprentice. The main grant is currently £1000 for those employed and enrolled onto an apprenticeship when they are between 16 to 18 years old. There may also be grants available through your local authorities, you should check with them directly for these.

In most cases no the only costs to the business will be the apprentice wage. 

If you employ an apprentice aged 16-18 you don’t have to pay a penny towards their training. For apprentices aged 19+, you will be required to pay a 5% contribution and we work with you to ensure this cost is manageable.

In most cases our apprenticeships a fully work based programs meaning we will come to you in your salon to complete the training and assessments.

We can offer learners the opportunity to attend one of our Kleek Academies on day release, if they are based within travelling distance of them, and we hold weekly scheduled training sessions online in our virtual classrooms as well as holding a fantastic library of learning materials in our Virtual Learning Environment.

 

Our educator ran training is much more hands-on than a typical college course and gives your apprentice the skills, knowledge and behaviours to excel in their chosen career and become job ready whilst giving them the time to settle and become an integral part of your team.

Your apprentice will receive one-to-one training from their dedicated Kleek Educator who will plan and oversee their tailor-made learning program and offer support and guidance both online and face-to-face.

 

We have developed a bespoke interactive virtual learning environment to make your apprentices learning journey as engaging and smooth as possible.

Apprentices and employers have a unique calendar, where you can log and track training hours. You will also get the contact details of your designated educator meaning you can call them at anytime to review the progress of your apprentice.

All apprentices need to be on the apprenticeship for a minimum of 13 months but the program can take up to 24 months. 

An average Kleek apprenticeship will last between 15 to 18 months.

The harder your apprentice works, the faster they can achieve their apprenticeship. At the start of the apprenticeship we will work with you and your apprentice to agree a training plan and timescales for achievement.

Kleek have a dedicated recruitment team who will help you find the perfect candidate, advertise your opportunity on our website, search engines and the government's vacancy matching service. Not only that, but we will also review all applications for your position to make sure they are suitable for your business!

Advertising on your website, social media and at your premises is also a great way to attract potential apprentices.

Apprentices are required to work a minimum of 30 hours per week, unless there are extceptional circumstances. However, if your apprentice is under 18 years old, they are not permitted to work more than 40 hours per week, or more than 8 hours per day.

As an employer you must dedicate a minimum of 6 hours to training.

We will provide the apprentice and you with all the training materials you need. We even give your apprentice a free kit to practice with!

However you will need to provide the consumables they need to perform the services they are practicing such as shampoos, make-ups or massage oils.

Yes they can.

Our apprenticeships are available to anyone from the age of 16. We don’t have an upper age limit on our apprenticeships as long as they don't already have the qualification they can complete any of our apprenticeships.

Since the introduction of the Hair Professional Standard Apprenticeship,  apprentices are taught the theory of cutting, colouring and styling of all hair types/classifications as part of the course, including extremely curly hair.
